YUJUN WANG

Yujun Wang graduated from the Applied Drama and Theater Department at National Taiwan University of Arts. She currently works as a singer-songwriter and composer who explores the border between music and sound, as well as their connection between theater, dance, performing arts, visual Arts, space, film and literature. She was resident artist at the Treasure Hills Artists Village in Taipei in the spring of 2011 and learned oud in Istanbul (Turkey) with the sponsorship of Cloud Gate Foundation (“Wanderer program of Cloud Gate Foundation”) in 2012.

Keen on interdisciplinary exploration, she has developed a stereoscopic approach to shaping the sound of music. Her practice draws upon observations of everyday life and ordinary people, transmuting mundane and fleeting impressions into a sonic documentation of complex emotional shades. Yujun’s passion towards her craft is reflected whether in sharing indescribable moments of beauty with a theatre or black box audience, composing solo, or endlessly refining each note with her band. For the future, Yujun looks forward to making music in various corners of the world, recording vibrations that are native to the local atmosphere and their rhythms of life; hopefully uncovering through indigenous poems and songs new ways to bringing cultures into dialogue with one another.

Yujun’s published work include: the concept EP “Concave”《凹》, concept album “The tracks on the Beach”  《沙灘上的脚印》, and YujunWang & TIMEr Band’s “Abandoned Garden” CD《頹圮花園》、The Initial Longing 《原始的嚮往》. Other recording projects include “The Birth” 《初生》, “The Day of Growing Up”《長大的那一天》and “La Disparition”《消失- 神木下的夢》, part of the CD soundtrack for Flying Group Theatre’s production "A Sleep and a Forgetting 《一睡一醒之間》, and various other compilations.
